Formed in 2022 as a lockdown songwriting project by frontman Smithy, the band quickly evolved from remote collaboration into a full-throttle four-piece, coming together in a West London rehearsal room to forge the sound that would become their signature.
The lineup features Smithy (vocals/guitar), Del (drums), Si (bass), and Sam (guitar), each bringing their own influences and experience to create music that is powerful, melodic, and uncompromising. On stage, THE FIRES BELOW have rapidly earned a reputation for their high-intensity performances, appearing at renowned London venues including The Water Rats, The Fiddler’s Elbow in Camden, LVLS, and a headline show at The Hope & Anchor. They have also brought their relentless live show to festivals including Hanwell Hootie and Camden Rocks.
In 2024, the band raised the bar once again with their five-track EP Thorns, a release that caught the attention of Metal Hammer and Metalized magazines with positive reviews. Continually refining their sound through live performances, they have focused on capturing the raw excitement, crushing power, and authentic spirit that define THE FIRES BELOW.
Beyond the stage, the band launched Heavy in Hanwell in 2026, an all-day heavy music festival in West London showcasing multiple bands and celebrating the local rock and metal community. Its successful debut established it as a standout event, with plans for it to become a recurring fixture on London’s live music calendar.
